Is N Seoul Tower Worth Visiting at Night?

Right in the heart of Seoul, N Seoul Tower sits on top of Namsan Mountain. As you explore the city, you’ll find yourself spotting it from all kinds of places.
It’s one of Seoul’s most iconic landmarks and one of the best places to take in the city from above. During the day, you get views of Seoul’s skyline and the green slopes of Namsan. After sunset, the city lights up, giving you a completely different view of Seoul.
So, wondering if N Seoul Tower is worth visiting?
If it’s your first time in Seoul, I’d definitely put it on your itinerary. Instead of wondering whether to go, the real questions are: Should you visit during the day or at night? Take the cable car or the bus? And is it worth paying extra to go up to the observatory?
I’ll break it all down so you can figure out the best way to experience N Seoul Tower for your trip!
Can You Drive Directly to N Seoul Tower?

Planning to take an Uber, taxi, or a rental car straight to N Seoul Tower? There’s something you should know before you go.
You can’t drive your car all the way up to the tower.
Private vehicles are restricted on parts of Namsan’s summit road to help protect the mountain and reduce traffic. So, don’t assume you can just plug N Seoul Tower into your GPS and get dropped off right at the entrance.
You have three main options:
- Walk up Namsan — a good option if you enjoy hiking, but expect an uphill walk.
- Take the Namsan Cable Car — a fun way to get up the mountain, although queues can get long, especially during busy evening hours.
- Take the Namsan shuttle bus — a practical option if you want to get to the tower without the uphill walk or the extra cost of a cable car ticket.
If you’re visiting at night and want to keep things simple, the shuttle bus is definitely worth considering.
How to Get to N Seoul Tower by Bus at Night

Difference: Bus 01A vs. Bus 01B
There are two main buses you can take up to N Seoul Tower, and both feature Seoul’s adorable Haechi character! Look for buses 01A and 01B.
- Bus 01A: The longer loop route, passing through areas like Gwanghwamun, City Hall, and Insadong before heading up Namsan.
- Bus 01B: The shorter loop route, connecting stops like Chungmuro Station, Dongguk University Station, and the National Theater with N Seoul Tower.
Both will get you to the tower, so the best one to take depends on where you’re starting from.
From Chungmuro Station (Lines 3 & 4)
If you’re coming from central Seoul, Chungmuro Station is a convenient place to catch the bus up to Namsan. The bus stop is just a short walk from the subway exit, so you won’t have to wander around looking for it.
- Take Subway Line 3 or Line 4 to Chungmuro Station.
- Head out through Exit 2.
- Walk straight for about a minute. You’ll find the bus stop in front of Daehan Cinema.(대한극장)
- Hop on Bus 01A or 01B.
- Sit back and enjoy the ride up Namsan. It takes about 15 minutes to reach the N Seoul Tower stop.
Once you get off, just follow the signs toward the tower and outdoor plaza. You’re almost there!
How to Get to N Seoul Tower by Bus from Insadong

After exploring Gyeongbokgung Palace, Bukchon Hanok Village, and Insadong, I took the bus up to Namsan to finish the day with Seoul’s night views.

I caught Bus 01A at the stop outside Anguk Station Exit 6.
The best part? You can explore Gyeongbokgung, Bukchon, and Insadong on foot, so there’s no need to take a bus between each stop. Just save the bus ride for the trip up to N Seoul Tower at the end of the day.

After riding Bus 01A for five stops from Anguk Station, get off at Beoseu Jonghap Terminal (Bus Transfer Center) and switch to Bus 01B to continue up to N Seoul Tower.
Here’s a handy tip: Seoul offers transfer discounts when you switch buses using a transportation card. But you won’t get the discount if you transfer to the same bus route, so don’t hop back on 01A — switch to 01B instead!
Both 01A and 01B go to N Seoul Tower, so you’ll still get to the same destination. Just remember to tap your transportation card when you get off the first bus to make sure your transfer discount applies.

Once you’ve transferred to Bus 01B, just sit back and enjoy the ride up Namsan.
Get off at the N Seoul Tower stop, and you’re there!

After a short but uphill 10-minute walk from the shuttle bus stop, you’ll reach the main plaza. And honestly, the vibe up here at night is worth the climb. If you’re visiting Seoul for the first time, catching the city lights from Namsan is a pretty memorable way to wrap up your day.

But if you want to see Seoul from every direction, the observatory is worth considering.
The outdoor plaza gives you a great view of the city, while the observation deck offers a 360-degree panoramic view from higher up.
It’s a completely different experience—especially if you want to take in more of Seoul’s skyline from above without trees or fences in your way, or if the night wind gets a bit too chilly.

The Famous Love Locks at N Seoul Tower

You’ve probably seen photos of the colorful love locks at N Seoul Tower. The fences around the plaza are covered in padlocks left by couples, often with their names, a special date, or a little message written on them. The idea is simple: lock it here, and your love will last.
Even if you’re not here on a romantic date, it’s worth taking a look. There are locks in all sorts of colors and shapes, and you’ll spot plenty of little messages if you look closely. It’s also a fun place to snap a few photos while you’re exploring the area.

You don’t need a ticket to see the locks, and there’s no pressure to buy one yourself. Just wander around and have a look. If you’re visiting with your partner, though, you might be tempted to leave a lock of your own. (Love locks are available from vending machines.)
Why N Seoul Tower Changes Color at Night

Those colorful lights on N Seoul Tower aren’t just there to look pretty. They also give you a quick way to check Seoul’s air quality. The tower changes color based on the day’s fine dust levels, so its lights can tell you a little more than you might expect.
Here’s what each color means:
- 🔵 Blue: Good air quality
- 🟢 Green: Moderate air quality
- 🟡 Yellow: Poor air quality
- 🔴 Red: Very poor air quality
So, if you spot the tower glowing blue, that’s a good sign that fine dust levels are low.
It doesn’t guarantee a perfectly clear view, though, since haze and weather conditions can still affect how much of Seoul you can see.
Before heading up Namsan, we actually checked the tower from a distance and said we’d skip it if the lights were Yellow. Luckily, they were blue, so we went for it! It’s a small detail, but a fun little way to check Seoul’s air quality before you head up.
What Else to See Around N Seoul Tower

There’s actually quite a bit to do around N Seoul Tower, even if you’re not planning to go inside.
If you just want to take a break, head over to Palgakjeong Pavilion.
There’s a plaza around the pavilion where you can sit for a while, catch your breath, and enjoy the views.

So even without an observatory ticket, you can still spend some time here, grab a bite, and enjoy the atmosphere.
The Best Photo Spots Around the Tower

Honestly, the night views from Namsan are so good that you don’t need to hunt for some secret photo spot. Just walk around the plaza and find a view you like.
But there’s one thing worth remembering when taking photos at night: turn off your flash.
It can make your face look too bright while leaving the city lights in the background looking dark or washed out. Instead, try using your phone’s Night Mode and let the lights of Seoul be the backdrop.
Sometimes, the best photos come from simply finding a nice view and enjoying the moment.
Is the N Seoul Tower Observatory Worth It?

The outdoor plaza is a great spot to enjoy Seoul’s night views for free, but if you want to see the city from every direction, the observatory is worth considering.
If it’s your first time in Seoul, you might feel like going up at least once while you’re here. From the indoor observatory, you can take in a 360-degree view of the city without worrying about the chilly mountain air. It’s a different experience from enjoying the views outside, especially when you want to see more of Seoul’s skyline from above.
Thinking about going up? Check the ticket prices online before you visit. You may find a better deal than buying at the ticket counter, and booking ahead means one less thing to sort out when you get there.
How to Get Back Down from Namsan at Night

After enjoying the magical night view, getting back down the mountain is simple, but you need to keep an eye on the clock. Because private taxis and Ubers cannot drive up to the tower, your return options are exactly the same as how you came up.
You just need to walk back down the 10-minute hill to the N Seoul Tower Bus Parking Lot (where you first got off)
- Both Bus 01A and 01B will take you back down to major subway stations like Dongguk University Station (Line 3) and Chungmuro Station (Lines 3 & 4).
- Crucial Last Bus Warning: The last shuttle bus leaves the N Seoul Tower parking lot around 11:00 PM (23:00) Seoul Shuttle Bus Info. To be absolutely safe and avoid getting stranded on the mountain, I highly recommend heading down to the bus stop by 10:30 PM.
- Card Reminder: Don’t forget to tap your T-money or Climate Card on the scanner before stepping off the back door!
Tips for Visiting N Seoul Tower at Night

It can feel surprisingly chilly at the top of Namsan after dark, especially when the wind picks up. Even if it’s warm in Myeongdong, the open plaza around N Seoul Tower can feel much cooler at night. Bring a light jacket or sweater so you can enjoy the views without freezing.
Wear Comfortable Walking Shoes
Even if you take the Namsan shuttle bus, you’ll still need to walk a little uphill to reach the tower area. Some parts of the path are steep, so comfortable sneakers are a much better choice than heels or shoes that are hard to walk in. Your feet will thank you later!

If you have time, try to get to the top around 30–45 minutes before sunset. You’ll get to see Seoul in the fading daylight, watch the sky change colors, and then see the city lights come on as it gets dark. It’s a great way to enjoy both daytime and nighttime views in one visit.
